Clusters
SHARPS comprised 64 projects. These were organized into four clusters except for two projects known as the Pan-SHARP projects. The four clusters concerned four overlapping groupings of security and privacy considerations important to health information technology. These were:
- Audit Cluster comprised 11 projects that were aimed to develop ways to analyze logs of accesses to health records to catch policy violations and improve access management.
- Automated Policy Cluster comprised 18 projects that were aimed to develop ways to automate complex decisions about sharing of health records and assure compliance to regulations and consents.
- Encryption and Trusted Base Cluster comprised 5 projects that were aimed to develop a resilient foundation for sharing health information.
- Telemedicine Cluster comprised 28 projects that were aimed to assure the security and privacy of emerging systems of sensors and actuators for healthcare and wellness.
The Pan-SHARP projects represented the SHARPS portion of a cross-cutting demonstration project of the SHARP program generally.
